Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Dayal Takes Over As Vice-Chancellor of Kushabhau Thakre Journalism University

Raipur : Professor (Dr) Manoj Dayal, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya, marking a significant transition in the leadership of the state’s premier journalism and mass communication university. A distinguished media academic with decades of experience in teaching and institutional development, Prof. Dayal formally assumed charge on Friday morning in Raipur.
The ceremony began at 9:30 a.m. with traditional Vedic rituals and prayers, symbolising the formal commencement of his tenure. The assumption of office was conducted in the presence of senior university officials and administrative representatives.
Raipur Divisional Commissioner Mahadev Kawre, IAS, bid farewell to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor by presenting him with a bouquet. University Registrar Sunil Kumar Sharma expressed gratitude for the former Vice-Chancellor’s contributions toward institutional growth and academic strengthening during his tenure.
Soon after formally taking charge, Prof. Dayal paid floral tributes to the statue of Kushabhau Thakre, the revered organisational leader and the university’s guiding inspiration, remembered for his simplicity, sacrifice and institution-building vision.
In his initial remarks, Prof. Dayal conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor and the Chief Minister for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the university. He then began a comprehensive review of the institution’s administrative and academic functioning and interacted with members of the university fraternity to understand ongoing initiatives and future priorities.
Demonstrating a hands-on approach from day one, the new Vice-Chancellor visited the university library, where he engaged with research scholars and postgraduate students, discussing academic resources and research aspirations. He also recorded a goodwill message at the university’s community radio station, Radio Samvad 90.8 FM, emphasising the role of responsible media in nation-building.
Prof. Dayal inspected the television studios and faculty buildings, reviewing infrastructural facilities and academic operations. He further interacted with students across various departments, attending ongoing classes and encouraging them to pursue excellence in journalism and mass communication with ethical commitment and professional integrity.
The occasion witnessed the presence of all Heads of Departments, faculty members, officers and staff, who extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor.
With a blend of academic experience and administrative vision, Prof. Dayal’s appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of innovation and institutional strengthening at the university, reinforcing its position as a leading center for media education in the region.
